Edward Estlin Cummings (October 14, 1894 – September 3, 1962)

I love this insight by E.E. Cummings

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best night and
day to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle
any human can fight and never stop fighting".
I found this saying which set me on a journey to find out the man
behind the saying and it has been an interesting one just like the man.

He was a prolific poet, an author and an artist. His works are often prefaced with his initials in lower case but this is a misnomer that he preferred his initials in lower case that has lived on after his death. The Wikipedia link will clarify the misnomer that has been perpetuated for decades.
Below is one of his more well known poems.

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in my heart)

i am never without it(anywhere i go you go,my dear;

and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)

i want no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)

and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and

the bud of the bud and

the sky of the sky of a tree called life;

which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

I have also found a beautiful collection that is being restored of art works at the following link;http://www.brockport.edu/cummings/intro.php
Here are some of his artworks on the above website where you can adopted a work for restoration. A champion idea to preserve one of America's well known poets works.
